#AffordableRCT-OmDentalKhar

Dental floss is a slender filament cord used to take out food or dental plaque stuck between teeth. According to The American Dental Association, regular flossing aids in achieving optimal oral health. Dentists recommend flossing everyday as it helps prevent gum diseases like plaque and cavities. This is important because if plaque is not cleaned, it can eventually harden into calculus or tartar.

Toothbrushes can clean the outer surfaces but in order to clean the area close to the gums or underneath them, you need to floss. The flossing thread is gently inserted between the teeth and rubbed between the teeth sides.

What Type of Floss Should I Use?

There are two types of floss from which to choose:

  1. Nylon (or multifilament) floss
  2. PTFE (monofilament) floss

Nylon floss can be either waxed or unwaxed. It is composed of many strands of nylon. The drawback of this type of floss is that it may sometimes tear or shred, especially between the tighter areas of teeth.

In contrast, single filament (PTFE) floss provides easy sliding between teeth even with tight spaces and is virtually shred-resistant. In conclusion, both types of floss are excellent at removing plaque and debris if used properly.

As per American Dental Association here are few tips on How to Floss:

Break off about 18 inches of floss. Wrap most of it around the middle finger of one hand. Curl the remaining around the same finger in other hand. This finger will take up the floss as it becomes dirty.
